MARRKA WANGKA
Ten Aboriginal art workers from vast expanses of Australia’s Central Desert region travel to the bustling metropolis of Melbourne on a journey of discovery and learning.
Marrka Wangka translates to “speak strong” and that is what these art workers are learning to do through a week-long program culminating in nerve wracking public presentations of their work. Along the way they visit famous Melbourne sites, attend an AFL footy game and learn drama at the Victorian College of the Arts. At first bewildering, the city of Melbourne slowly becomes more familiar as the ten learn about an Australian way of life starkly different to their own.
